Saved By The Peaks - Peaks and Pines | Bottle Image Colorado Springs

Beer Tasting Notes – October 20

Welcome to Drinking N Stuff

Another week, another round of beer experiments — some good, some… let’s just say
“educational.” Here’s the honest breakdown from our tasting crew this week.

Lukcy Basartd Ale | Bottle Image Colorado Springs

Lukcy Basartd – Firestone (Ale, 8.5% ABV, ★☆☆☆☆)

This one was scary — a 2013 beer that had entirely turned to vinegar. Definitely
undrinkable. Lesson learned: don’t age beer this long unless you want a science
experiment.

Helluva Caucasian - Living the Dream | Bottle Image Colorado Springs

Helluva Caucasian – Living the Dream (Milk Stout, 8% ABV, ★☆☆☆☆)

A 2023 barrel-aged stout with a nice color and great aroma, but it fizzled on flavor. Lots
of bubbles, very little substance. Supposed to mimic a White Russian, but missed the
mark.

Saved By The Peaks - Peaks and Pines | Bottle Image Colorado Springs

Saved by the Peaks – Peaks and Pines (Belgian Ale, 11% ABV, ★★★☆☆)

Aged since 2022 — and solid as always from Peaks and Pines. Notes of stone fruit,
dates, and a touch of pear make this one of the night’s highlights. A well-done Belgian
with character.

Pastry Archy - Duclaw | Can Image Colorado Springs

Pastry Archy – DuClaw (Imperial Brown Ale, 8.5% ABV, ★★☆☆☆)

Sweet aroma, roasty malt backbone, and hints of cookie and cinnamon. Unfortunately,
too much molasses took over and buried the base brown ale. Overly sweet, but not a
total miss.

Bluebeary Cobbler Sour - Red Leg | Can Image Colorado Springs

Bluebeary Cobbler – Red Leg (Sour, 6.7% ABV, ★★½☆☆)

For context — I don’t like sours. That said, this one wasn’t bad! Drinks more like
blueberry juice than a true sour. Not super tart, just mildly tangy and easy to handle.

Hunahpu’s – Cigar City (Imperial Stout, ~ABV N/A, ★★☆☆☆)

Aged since 2016 — heavy chocolate and deep stout character, but the flavor’s fallen off
over the years. Still drinkable, smells great, but right on the edge of turning. Another
reminder: don’t age beer too long.

Overall Takeaway

Aged beers dominated this week’s tasting — and the verdict is clear: fresh is best.
Saved by the Peaks held its ground, while the others served as a cautionary tale
against long-term cellaring.
